GRAMMY® nominated conductor Gregory Robbins enjoys a multifaceted career as a performer, educator, bassist, and arts advocate, and is acclaimed for his stylistic versatility and collaborative spirit. Equally comfortable in classical, jazz, and popular music settings, Robbins has conducted on major international stages including Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House, and regularly guest conducts professional orchestras such as the Redlands Symphony, Orchestra Indiana, Pazardzhik Symphony (Bulgaria), Yonkers Philharmonic, Symphony by the Sea, and the Video Game Orchestra.
Since 2022, Robbins has served as Director of Orchestras and Graduate Orchestral Conducting at Ball State University School of Music, where he leads the Ball State Symphony Orchestra and trains the next generation of conductors. He previously held leadership roles as Associate Conductor of the Greater Bridgeport Symphony, Music Director of the Delphi Chamber Orchestra, and Director of Orchestral Programs at Idyllwild Arts Academy and Summer Program (2019–2022), where he led a dynamic pre-professional orchestral training environment and an internationally recognized summer music festival.
Robbins is a dedicated educator and mentor with extensive experience working with youth, collegiate, and secondary ensembles across the country. He has guest conducted or lectured at institutions including the Yale School of Music, New York University, and Mannes College: The New School for Music, and has worked with programs such as the New York State Summer School for the Arts, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Orchestra. In 2024, he served as Guest Conductor for the New York City Honors Orchestra Festival.
A strong advocate for contemporary and cross-genre performance, Robbins was nominated for a 2023 GRAMMY Award for his work conducting Assembly of Shadows, a New York-based jazz orchestra founded by Remy Le Boeuf in 2018. In 2017, he led the Wordless Music Orchestra in sold-out performances with John Cale at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, receiving acclaim from The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and The New York Times. His work in Film & Television includes serving as conducting coach to Gael García Bernal and the star-studded cast of Amazon’s Emmy-winning series Mozart in the Jungle.
As a chamber musician, Robbins has performed with distinguished artists including David Frankl, Clive Greensmith, and Ani Kavafian, and has collaborated with members of the Tokyo, Linden, and Attacca String Quartets for performances at Carnegie Hall and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival.
He received his formal training at the Yale School of Music and the Manhattan School of Music, and currently resides in Muncie, Indiana.
