views from the podium
My work as a conductor grows out of a lifelong love affair with the symphonic literature. There is something magical about the power of an orchestra to captivate an audience, and to mirror the artistic soul of each new generation. I believe classical music remains a vital, relevant art form, and strive to make every performance an inspiring and memorable experience for all who listen.
symphonic
I approach orchestral work with a clear focus on clarity, musical intention, and emotional depth. When programming, I aim to create a narrative through-line that connects masterworks of the past with voices of the present. I take real pleasure in the role of musical "treasure-hunter" that comes with artistic planning—digging into unfamiliar corners of the repertoire, discovering new works, and collaborating with voices of the present. Those experiences help me build programs that feel personal, surprising, and meaningful—for both the musicians and the audience.
opera / theater / ballet
As the son of a professional ballerina, I have always had a deep love of ballet and other works for the stage including opera and musical theater. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with singers, dancers, directors, and choreographers to bring fully staged productions to life—an experience that continues to inspire my overall approach as a conductor. In recent seasons, I’ve conducted operas by Puccini, Donizetti, and Pauline Viardot, as well as beloved ballet repertoire including Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker.
